It is now time to begin Tropical Storm & Hurricane Preparation Procedures for this year's hurricane season which is June 1st through November 30th. Our primary concern is for the safety of you and your family. Please review the information below, check your hurricane disaster supplies, replace and restock if necessary and stay informed. Our second concern is the protection your home. Please follow the recommended procedures below to secure your home, protect your personal property and prepare for evacuation if required. We ask that you please begin making the necessary arrangements to prepare.
Definitions of Watch(s) and Warning(s): Tropical Storm Watch Tropical Storm conditions are possible within 36 hours. Stay informed.
Tropical Storm Warning Tropical Storm conditions are expected within 24 hours or less. A warning that sustained winds within the range of 39-73 mph associated with a tropical cyclone is expected. Complete your storm preparations
Hurricane Watch Hurricane conditions are a threat within 48 hours. Review your hurricane plans and be prepared to act if a warning is issued. Stay informed.
Hurricane Warning Hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours. A warning that sustained winds of 74 mph or higher associated with a hurricane are expected. Complete your storm preparations and/or leave the area if directed to do so by authorities.
Preparations before the Storm: 1. Turn on TV/Radio and stay informed.

4. Check your hurricane disaster supplies. Replace or restock as needed. (Recommended Hurricane Supplies listed below.)
5. Secure and/or bring in all exterior furniture. All loose objects which can be picked up by the wind should be picked up and brought in. (I.e. Light patio furniture, small hanging and/or potted plants, decorative patio/lawn items, bicycles, etc.)
6. Remove all breakable items away from your windows within your home.
7. Begin preparing to close and secure your windows, doors and hurricane shutters. Secure any outdoor gates and reinforce your garage door.
8. Those resident(s) who own a vehicle should secure and park your vehicle(s) in the garage, driveway and/or assigned parking space(s) only. Do not park in yards next to buildings, trees and/or utility poles.
9. Fuel up your vehicles and propane tanks; obtain fuel for generators.
10. Prep and test generator if you have one. (Do NOT operate during storm.)
11. Determine where and how to secure your boat.
12. 48 Hours prior to storm landfall, please turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest setting. Keep the door(s)/drawer(s) closed as much as possible to keep the cold air in. This will ensure the food will last long in the event the power goes out. Freeze plastic jugs and/or cartons of water. You may also wish to make and store extra ice.
13. Clean bathtub(s), containers, etc. and fill with water. If the storm becomes a serious Hurricane the water supply system may loose pressure and/or be cut off completely. If this is the case, water stored in bathtubs, containers, etc. should be used for washing and flushing of toilets.
14. Make sure to stock up on bottled drinking water.
15. Make sure to keep charged all personal devices. (I.e. Cellular phones, laptops, tablets, etc.)
16. Turn off propane tanks. Unplug all appliances and electronics. If evacuating, unplug all power cords, cover electronic equipment with plastic to minimize water damage and empty the refrigerator/freezer. You may choose to wrap towels around the base of the refrigerator/freezer to absorb water after the defrost.
17. Plan routes to local shelters, register any family member(s) who may have special medical needs and make plans/arrangements for pets to be cared for if applicable.
18. Ensure all important paperwork/valuable are placed in safekeeping. If you plan on evacuating please ensure to take important paperwork/valuables with you. Ensure all windows are secured and doors are locked.
19. If you are going to a hotel, make reservations early (even before an evacuation is ordered). Hotels will fill up quickly. Keep hotel phone number with you.
20. Leave early enough to avoid being trapped by the bad weather.
21. If you evacuate, please notify your family/friends when you arrive at your storm-safe location. Providing location and contact info.
Also note, if there is NO POWER, this means sewer systems will not be working up to full capacity. Please flush toilets sparingly until power is restored.
Recommended Hurricane Supplies Water – at least 5 day supply, one gallon per person per day
Food – at least 5 day supply of non-perishable, easy to prepare items
Flashlight(s) and extra batteries
Battery-powered/hand crank radio
First aid kit
Medications – at least 7 day supply
Medical items – hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc.
Multi-purpose tools.
Sanitation and personal hygiene items
Baby supplies – bottles, formula, baby food, medication, diapers, etc.
Pet supplies – food, medication, leash, collar, carrier, etc.
Extra cash
Extra batteries and phone/tablet/laptop chargers.
Extra blankets, rain gear, hat, sturdy shoes, etc.
Insect repellent and sunscreen
Extra set of car and house keys
Copies of personal documents (medication list, pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passport(s), birth certificate(s), insurance policies, etc.)
Family and emergency contact information
Camera for photos after the storm (possible damage)
Tools/supplies for securing home (Plastic, rags, large garbage bags, zip lock bags, waterproof portable container w/lid, etc.)
Cleaning supplies – stock up on personal care and cleaning items
Advice for Older Adults and Special Needs Adults who are elderly, frail and/or disabled may need special assistance from family members, friends or social service agencies. Excessive anxiety and/or stress may contribute to increased episodes of illness, particularly for those person(s) with heart disease and/or other medical/physical conditions. If you are home-bound during the time of a storm and under the care of a physician, contact your physician and/or home health agency where you will be during the storm. If you require oxygen please check with your supplier regarding an emergency plan. If you evacuate make sure to take all required medications, any written instructions you may have regarding your care, your walker, wheelchair, cane or any other special equipment you may need.
