Miami's Peak Season Calendar: The Twelve Weeks When Cars Sell Out

Miami's year is not flat. It has roughly twelve weeks in which demand for chauffeured vehicles exceeds the supply of them, and in those weeks the constraint is not price. It is whether a car exists.

The rest of the year you can book a good vehicle a few days out and get one. Inside these twelve weeks, calling a week ahead can mean hearing no from every operator in the county. That is a genuinely different situation, and most people only discover the difference once.

Here is the calendar, what makes each week behave the way it does, and how far ahead each one actually needs to be booked.

Why "sold out" is a real answer

Ground transportation has a supply problem that hotels and restaurants do not.

A hotel can raise its rate and let price do the sorting. An operator's ceiling is physical: a finite number of vehicles, each of which can be in one place at a time, driven by a chauffeur who is licensed, insured and legally limited in how long they can work. You cannot conjure a Sprinter and a qualified driver for next Thursday because someone offered more money.

And peak weeks compound the problem in a way that is easy to miss. The same demand that fills vehicles also fills the roads, which makes every job take longer, which means each vehicle completes fewer jobs. Effective capacity drops at exactly the moment demand peaks.

That is why the honest answer during Art Week is sometimes simply "we have nothing," and why the operators who tell you that early are more useful than the ones who take the booking and sort it out later.

The twelve weeks

Running from December, because that is where Miami's season really starts.

1. Art Week — early December

Art Basel Miami Beach is listed for December 2 to 6, 2026, with the wider Miami Art Week around it bringing more than twenty satellite fairs and several hundred events. Confirm the year's dates before you plan, because they move.

This is the hardest week of the year to book, and it is not close. The demand is not just volume — it is the shape of it. Art Week generates continuous cross-bay movement between the Convention Center, the Design District, Wynwood and downtown, all day and late into the night, for a full week. Hourly bookings dominate, which means vehicles are held for long blocks rather than turned over. Fewer cars serve fewer clients.

2. Christmas through New Year — late December

The stretch from about December 26 to January 1 is the second-hardest, and 2026 is worse than usual: New Year's Eve falls on a Thursday with New Year's Day on Friday, which turns the whole thing into a four-day weekend and pulls demand forward.

Two distinct pressures stack here. Holiday arrivals fill airport transfers through the week, and New Year's Eve itself is the single highest-demand night of the year for hourly work. 3. Boat Show week — mid-February

The Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show runs February 10 to 14, 2027, across the Miami Beach Convention Center, the Miami Yacht Collection, Sailor's Cove and Pride Park. The organisers put attendance above 100,000, with more than a thousand boats on display, and cite an economic impact figure approaching $956 million for the 2026 edition.

What makes it hard for transportation specifically is that it is a multi-venue show. Attendees move between sites all day, which produces exactly the hourly, as-directed demand that consumes vehicles fastest. It also lands on the Presidents' Day weekend, so leisure travel is layered on top of the trade traffic.

4 to 7. Spring break — March

March is not one week, which is what makes it deceptive. American universities stagger their spring breaks across roughly four weeks, so instead of one spike you get a month of sustained high demand with no obvious peak to plan around.

The practical effect is that March has no quiet stretch. Operators who could absorb a single busy week find themselves at capacity for four consecutive ones, and there is no recovery gap between them.

If your March travel is flexible at all, the first week is usually the softest.

8. Ultra and the Miami Open — the last week of March

This is the most compressed week in the entire year, and it is worth understanding why.

Ultra Music Festival is scheduled for March 26, 27 and 28, 2027. The Miami Open typically runs at Hard Rock Stadium from late March into early April. Spring break is still going. Three large, geographically separate demand centres — downtown, Miami Gardens, and the beaches — draw on the same vehicle pool in the same days.

Ultra also runs late, which matters more than the headcount. Late-night demand competes with next-morning airport runs for the same chauffeurs, and hours-of-service limits are not negotiable. Confirm the Miami Open's dates for the year; they shift.

9. Formula 1 — early May

The Miami Grand Prix runs at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, typically in early May. The 2027 date had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so check the official calendar rather than assuming last year's weekend.

F1 is the most corporate week on this list. Hospitality programmes book vehicles in blocks months ahead, often for three or four consecutive days, which removes those vehicles from general availability entirely rather than for a single trip. By the time the race weekend is a month away, what is left is what nobody reserved.

10 and 11. Swim Week and the late-spring event run — late spring into early summer

Miami Swim Week and the surrounding fashion and industry calendar produce a shorter, sharper version of Art Week: concentrated on the beaches, heavy on hourly bookings, and dependent on vehicles that look right on a hotel forecourt. Dates move year to year, so confirm them.

Demand here is narrower than Art Basel but it hits the premium end of the fleet hardest, which is the part that is thinnest everywhere.

12. Thanksgiving week — late November

The quiet giant. Thanksgiving does not feel like a Miami event, but the airport traffic around it is among the heaviest of the year, and it arrives immediately before Art Week without a gap. Operators enter December already stretched.

Airport transfers are the pressure point rather than hourly work. Book the transfers, not just the hotel.

What actually makes a week sell out

Look across those twelve and the same three factors keep appearing. They are more useful than the list itself, because they let you predict a week the list does not name.

Hourly bookings, not transfers. A point-to-point airport run occupies a vehicle for ninety minutes. An as-directed day occupies it for ten hours. A week built on hourly work consumes several times the capacity of a week built on transfers, for the same number of clients.

Multiple venues. Single-venue events are absorbable. Events spread across the Convention Center, the Design District and Wynwood generate movement all day rather than twice.

Late nights next to early mornings. When an event runs past midnight and the airport bank starts at 5 a.m., the same chauffeurs cannot serve both. Hours-of-service rules bind, and no amount of planning gets around them.

Any week with all three is a week to book early, whether or not it appears above.

How far ahead to book

Rough guidance, and deliberately conservative, because the cost of being early is nothing and the cost of being late is having no vehicle.

• Art Week and New Year's Eve: two to three months. September for December.
• Boat Show and Formula 1: six to eight weeks, or as soon as dates are published if you need a specific vehicle class.
• Spring break and the Ultra/Miami Open week: four to six weeks.
• Thanksgiving airport transfers: three to four weeks.
• Groups of any size, in any peak week: double whatever the above says. Larger vehicles are the scarcest thing in the fleet and the first to go — see group transportation.

Everything outside these windows is genuinely relaxed, which is the point of knowing where the windows are.

The soft season, and the trade-off

Roughly June through early November is Miami's quiet stretch. Availability is good, vehicle choice is wide, and lead times are short.

The trade-off is honest and worth stating plainly: that window is also Atlantic hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30. Availability improves partly because demand falls, and demand falls partly because of weather risk. For flexible travel, the last two weeks of April and the first two of May outside the race weekend are the sweet spot: good weather, real availability.

If you are already inside the window

Sometimes the trip is next week and the answer everywhere is no. Four things genuinely help.

Be flexible on vehicle class. Sedans free up before SUVs, and SUVs before Sprinters. A sedan that exists beats a Sprinter that does not.

Move your times off the peak. A 6 a.m. airport run is far more available than an 8 a.m. one during a peak week, because everyone asks for the same two-hour band.

Split the party. Two sedans are often available when one large vehicle is not.

Book the anchor movements only. Secure the airport arrival and the one event you cannot miss; handle the rest as it comes. Half a plan that exists is better than a whole plan that does not.
